Control of Major Accident Hazards

The Agency is the Competent Authority for the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) under the provisions of the Public Health Act. These provisions require installations which store or handle certain dangerous substances to submit Safety Reports and have in place emergency procedures in the case of an accident involving these dangerous substances. The Agency works very closely in consultation with experts from the UK’s Health and Safety Executive, the Health and Safety Laboratory and Environment Agency in assessing applications for installations intending to store /handle dangerous substances .
